In 2019, in the second year of tenders, PRIMA (Partnership for Research and Innovation in the Mediterranean Area) funded 48 projects, for a total amount of about 55 million euros, half from the European Commission and half from the 19 participating countries. This is a clear increase compared to 2018, when 36 projects were funded.
In a strategic sector such as agri-food, it will not be possible to counteract the effects of climate change, a management coefficient water resources and promote sustainable production and consumption styles without the concrete collaboration between laboratories and companies throughout the basin.
To this end, having already built, after just two rounds of annual calls, a network of over 700 research units and companies from the two coasts of the Mediterranean is a very promising result, both in terms of promoting a transition towards more sustainable agri-food systems and scientific diplomacy.
